Savills: Málaga City Tops Europe for Executive Nomads
Málaga City ranks third globally and first in Europe as the best destination for high-earning remote workers, according to Savills’ 2025 Executive Nomad Index. The city appeals to professionals who want to balance work with quality of life.
“Málaga has a Mediterranean lifestyle, comparatively affordable living, reliable services and excellent connectivity – both digitally and through direct flights to major cities,” says José Felix Pérez-Peña, Executive Director Andalucía, Savills Spain. “It also offers a strong education system across the province, which is increasingly attracting nomadic families.
Other Spanish cities also made the top rankings: Palma came 6th and Barcelona 7th, both praised for their lifestyle and connections.
The Study
In September 2025, Savills analyzed 30 global destinations to find the most attractive places for long-term remote workers. They looked at:
- Internet speed
- Flight connections
- Weather stability
- Housing costs
- Quality of life

What Remote Workers Want
The study shows that executive nomads—business owners, senior managers, and entrepreneurs—now prioritize lifestyle over everything else. They look for:

- Quality schools (for families)
Málaga City offers Mediterranean living, affordable costs, and strong schools, making it popular with nomadic families. Palma and Barcelona combine coastal life with city conveniences.
The Growth of Digital Nomad Visas
Remote work visas have made this lifestyle possible. Since Estonia launched the first program in 2020, 67 countries now offer remote work visas. However, growth has slowed—some places like Bermuda have stopped their programs.
Countries are adapting: Canada and New Zealand now allow long-term visitor visas for remote workers. Spain’s Digital Nomad Visa and expanding coworking spaces make Málaga especially welcoming to remote professionals.
